2017 Arkady Fomin Scholarship Fund recipient

Leonid Baranov, born in St. Petersburg/Russia in 1994, began studying the violin at age 5. He attended Special Music School at Saint-Petersburg State Conservatory, under Nelli Skliarskaya, and currently studies under Pavel Vernikov at HEMU Sion, Switzerland. He has performed with various symphonic orchestras in various cities of Russia since age of 15. Awards he has won include  – I prize at the XI International Competition in Dobrich, Bulgaria, 2006; II prize of 5th Russian Competition for string instruments in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, 2008; Winner of All-Russian Competition “Young Talents of Russia” (Moscow) 2010; I prize of International Competition SIMC, Sweden, Stockholm, 2012 and I prize at International Crescendo Competition, New York in 2017.

Leonid Baranov has performed in such concert halls as Wiener Konzerthaus, Juilliard School of Music (Lincoln Center, New York), Ball State University (Indiana., USA), Hong Kong City hall, Israeli Opera House (Tel Aviv), Brewster Academy (New Hampshire, USA), Carnegie Hall (New York) and Icheon Performing Art Center (South Korea)
