2017 Arkady Fomin Scholarship Fund recipient
Born in Minsk, Belarus, violinist Darya Varlamova descends from a musical home. As her parents encouraged her talents from an early age on, she received her first tuition at the special music school in Belarus.
In 2006 Darya made her debut, performing with the Belarus Philharomic Orchestra in Minsk. She was awarded first prize at the Balys Dvarionas International Competition in Lithuiania and at the Cornelia-Bronzetti International Competition competition in Rumania and in 2008 Darya was awarded the silver medal at the 5th International Delphic Games.
Concert invitations to Germany followed, as well as participation in Masterclasses by Liane Issakadze an Boris Garlitsky. It was with the latter that she started her Bachelor Degree course at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, graduating with honors from the Folkwang-Universität der Künste Essen. Currently Darya is studying for her Master Degree at the Hochschule fur Musik Hans Eisler Berlin with Ulf Wallin.
Ms. Varlamova was awarded scholarship by the Oscar und Vera Ritter foundation, the Rotary Club Hamburg, the Zonta Club Essen, Yehudi Menuhin Live-Music- Now project and TONALi. Renowned musicians and artists like Dirk Mommertz, Andreas Reiner, Evgueni Sinaiski, Pavel Vernikov and Natalia Prischepenko are accompanying and guiding her artistic development.
In 2016 Darya won the Folkwang Award for Music. Ms. Varlamova is a passionate chamber musican, performing in piano trio, string trio and quartett, as well as in violin and piano duo with pianist Jonathan Zydek. Together they have toured in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Rumania, including the Bucharest Philharmonic.
