Recipient of the 2023 Arkady Fomin Scholarship Fund

Violinist Madison Lin is currently a sophomore at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, California. She began her violin studies at the age of five and currently studies with Dr. Pasha Sabouri at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Madison has participated in masterclasses with renowned musicians as: Vadim Gluzman, Midori, Haik Kazazyan, Stella Chen, and Justin Bruns. She is also currently a member of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra.

In addition to orchestral studies, Madison is an avid chamber musician, studying chamber music at both SFCM and the Cal Music Prep chamber music program. She has been coached by musicians including Doris Fukawa, Jonathan Koh, Joseph Maile, and Alison Lee.

Madison has been a prizewinner in competitions—MTAC’s VOCE State Competition, the USOMC Competition, the USIMC Competition, the Silicon Valley Music Competition, and the CPYO Soloist Competition. She was also in the 2022 All-State Symphony Orchestra. Madison has participated in the Texas Strings Festival.

When she is not playing the violin, Madison is a passionate jazz trumpeter for her school’s jazz band. She also enjoys photographing wildlife and editing for her school’s publications.

With this scholarship, Madison hopes to attend summer festivals to further her journey as a solo and chamber violinist.
