Recipient of the 2023 Arkady Fomin Scholarship Fund

Kaylee Kim began her violin studies at the age of 3 with Betty Haag-Kuhnke at the Betty Haag Academy of Music.  She is the recipient of the Paul Galvin Foundation scholarship, and the GGE Foundation award for outstanding talent, and the past recipient of the Vanessa Kolpak charitable fund.

Kaylee has had private lessons with concert violinist Vadim Gluzman, and masterclasses with Stephanie Jeong, John Macfarlane, Grigory Kalinovsky, Olga Kaler, Dr. Pasha Sabouri and Dr. Caroline Chin.  She has received numerous awards from the CYSO’s Concerto Competition, DePaul Concerto Festival, Sejong music competition, Music Festival in honor of Confucius, AMI young Artist contest, Granquist solo contest, and CCMF Concerto competition. As a winner of the CCMF competition she soloed with the North Eastern Illinois University Symphony.

As a member of the Magical Strings of Youth of the Betty Haag Academy, Kaylee has performed in Disney Hall with the Pacific Symphony, was soloist on concert tours of Germany and Portugal and appeared with the group in the Sterns Auditorium in Carnegie Hall in 2016. She was featured to play as a soloist at the Mary B. Galvin Recital Hall at Northwestern University in 2017. In 2023, Kaylee also had the opportunity to solo with the Vernon Hills High School Orchestra at L’église de la Madeleine and Eglise de l’Annonciation dite de Sainte-Rita in France.

As a winner of CYSO’s 2021 Concerto Competition, she soloed with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra. Furthermore, as the winner of the 2023 DePaul Concerto Festival, she showcased her soloist abilities with the Oistrakh Symphony of Chicago. Recently, Kaylee received Honorable mention in the 2023 Crain-Maling Foundation CSO Young Artists Competition.

Starting this fall, Kaylee will enter her final year of high school as a 12th grade honor student at Vernon Hills High School and as a member of the Vernon Hills High School Symphony Orchestra. Kaylee has been a member of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra since season of 2020-2021.
